Tuscan Evening beat Closeout by a length to win the $200,000 Las Palmas Handicap at Santa Anita on Friday. The 4-year-old filly, ridden by Rafael Bejarano, ran the eight furlongs in 1:33.50, and paid $9.80, $5.60 and $4.20. Closeout returned $23.20 and $14.60. Cat by the Tale paid $7.20 to show. The race was worth $120,000, raising Tuscan Evening's career earnings to $509,408.

Life got sweeter for Life Is Sweet without her daunting stablemate Zenyatta in the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic. After fruitlessly chasing the undefeated mare in three previous races, Life Is Sweet found the winner's circle. Tapitsfly has won the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf by a half-length, keeping her undefeated in two starts on the grass. The 2-year-old gray filly ran one mile Friday in 1:34.25 under Robby Albarado. Tapitsfly paid $21.60, $8.60 and $6 at 9-1 odds. Man of Iron has won the $500,000 Breeders' Cup Marathon in a photo finish over 9-year-old gelding Cloudy's Knight. Man of Iron won by a nose Friday in the first race of the two-day world championships at Santa Anita. Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien earned his fourth career Breeders' Cup win.
