| 1: | Jimmie Johnson | The best 10-race average finish of any Chase was Johnson's 5.0 in 2007. His average finish in the six races of this year's Chase is 3.0. | | 2: | Jeff Gordon | Stat of the Week – Gordon has more top 5s and top 10s than any other driver in 2009. In fact, his average finish is better this season than when he won the title back in 2001. | | 3: | Juan Pablo Montoya | Prediction of the Week – JPM will be the trendy pick to win the title in 2010. | | 4: | Mark Martin | The Kid warned everyone not to make any judgments on the Chase until Talladega, which roughly translates to "wait and see if Jimmie wrecks at Talladega, then I'll let you know if any of us have a chance." | | 5: | Denny Hamlin | Might just be the only driver capable of meeting Jimmie Johnson's challenge, which doesn't mean a thing considering he's 352 points back. | | 6: | Tony Stewart | Guess the one and only consequence left in Stewart's season is that he passed the Burger King lie detector test. | | 7: | Ryan Newman | Maybe the most amazing thing about Newman's first year with Stewart Haas Racing is the fact that he has zero DNFs, this from a guy who averaged around six per season going into 2009. | | 8: | Kurt Busch | Think KuBusch gets any satisfaction in beating all five of Jack Roush's drivers? | | 9: | Kasey Kahne | One week he's up, another he's down. Sounds a lot like the stability of Richard Petty Motorsports as a whole. | | 10: | Kyle Busch | Hard to believe crew chief Steve Addington is the problem with the 18, but then something's got to give, and it's not going to be the driver. | | 11: | Kevin Harvick | How much of a struggle has it been for Happy in 2009? He's led only 75 laps all season, and 66 of those came last month in Atlanta. | | 12: | Joey Logano | This is Logano's first appearance in Power Rankings, making Joe Gibbs Racing the only three-car team with all of its drivers in this illustrious list. | | Lucky Dog: | Bobby Labonte | Good runs have been few and far between for the former champ, so we gotta give props when he finishes inside the top 15. | | DNF: | Carl Edwards | This really goes to the entire Roush Fenway organization for not placing a single driver in Power Rankings, this for a team that was expected to place four drivers in the Chase and one, Edwards, was predicted by many to win it all. |
